KARACHI: Pakistan’s victory against Australia was received throughout the nation with overwhelming zest.

“It’s a great victory by the young team and a good omen for Pakistan cricket,” said former Pakistan captain Javed Miandad. “It’s a beginning of a new era and we hope that Salman Butt’s team can keep up the momentum against England. We badly needed a Test win and at last we have achieved it,” added batting maestro Miandad.

Former Pakistan captain Zaheer Abbas said it was a much needed win for the team’s confidence after a disastrous history of never winning a Test against Australia in the last 15 years

The praises also came from President Asif Zardari who congratulated Pakistan’s team on their historic win. While appreciating their performance, he also hoped that the team would continue to play with the same spirit and bring many more victories back home.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Cricket Board chairman Ijaz Butt announced a Rs500,000 bonus for the team, while non-playing members and team officials will receive Rs250,000 apiece.
