The provincial watch committee held its first meeting on Tuesday to discuss the successful implementation of the Protection against Harassment of Woman at the Work Place Act 2010.
“Sindh is the first province to create a committee for monitoring the implementation of the act,” said the minister for women development, Tauqir Fatima Bhutto. An office of ‘ombudsperson’ will also be established to handle complaints related to the problems faced by women.
Bhutto added that the government was fully committed to the socio-economic empowerment of women and was striving hard to provide a congenial working environment to them.
“The officials from the police and law departments will also be trained to deal with cases of abuse against women,” said the secretary for women development, Seema Najib.
The committee will also ensure coordination between organisations protecting females and compile an annual report on its activities for the National Commission on Status of Women.
