ISLAMABAD: Speaker National Assembly Dr Fehmida Mirza has accepted Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan’s resignation from the office of Chairman of Public Accounts Committee (PAC) on Wednesday.

Notification in this regard has been issued by the National Assembly Secretariat.

Chaudhry Nisar had resigned on November 27, on the pretext that accountability was not possible under the current regime.

Nisar had said that accountability during the current Pakistan Peoples Party regime led by President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gilani – which is hell-bent to make the PAC a political battleground – was not possible.

The resignation was not immediately accepted as the National Assembly Speaker was not in the country.
