Celebrating a legend: Conference on urs of Shah Latif Bhitai

The 268th urs celebration of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai in January 2012, will also feature an international conference.

The 268th urs celebration of Shah Abdul Latif Bhitai, which will commence in January 2012, will also feature an international conference.

Those invited to attend the event include Dr Moti Parkash, Herro Thakur and Vimi-Sadarangani from India as well as Mohammad Mithal Vakari from America. The Mela Organising Committee met on Monday to discuss a range of issues, including security, the beautification of Bhitshah and accommodation facilities. At the meeting, the secretary of culture, Abdul Aziz Uqaili, said that five books on Bhitai’s poetry will also be launched at the conference. Six thematic statues, embodying the characters from Bhitai’s poetry, will also be added to the seven avatars at the Bhitshah museum.


The three-day urs, which attracts thousands of people, features a folklore conference, sufi musical nights, discussion sessions, a cattle show, wrestling, an exhibition showcasing goods from the agricultural industry  and a model culture village which is themed on the Bhitai’s poetry.

It is pertinent to note here that an other prominent writer of hind Indra Poonawala will also participate the Lateef conference on Bhitt Shah.
