PM calls for registration of orphans

Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani gave directives to legislate a law to register all orphans in the country.

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani gave directives to Shahnaz Wazir Ali, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Social Sector, to legislate a law to register all orphans in the country. The prime minister was visiting Pakistan Sweet Homes orphanage on Friday, which was established by the Pakistan Bait-ul-Maal (PBM) in Sihala.

“Orphans in the country needs to be registered so that the government can plan welfare projects accordingly,” he added.

“We have hired The Educators to provide registered children with education,” He said.

He also urged that initiatives be taken whereby children in jails get proper education.  Muhammad Yaseen, District Officer, Pakistan Sweet Homes, said that there are about 152 registered orphans, all of them boys who are between the ages of 4 and 6, living in this orphanage. Yaseen said that about 15 Sweet Home orphanages are operational in 15 districts of the country which will be increased to
150 soon.
