4 officials including director suspended

Shahbaz Sharif suspended four officials over negligence regarding the speedy disposal of rainwater.

LAHORE: The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif suspended four officials including Water and Sanitation Agency (Wasa) director, over negligence regarding the speedy disposal of rainwater.

Two other officials were transferred.

CM staff officer Khawaja Imran Raza – while addressing a press conference – said that the CM’s inspection team had had found them to be negligent in their duties.

The suspended officials include Nishtar Town director Iftikhar Ahmed Malhi. Jamil Shah has been appointed in his place. Executive Engineer Abdul Karim was also suspended and M Yousuf has been appointed in his place. In Township, SDO Kamran Ahmed was suspended for not registering a complaint and SDO Danish has been appointed in his place.

SDO Garden Town Shazil Waqar has been ordered to report to administration. Iqbal Town SDO Ikram Khan has been suspended and SDO Akram Bhatti has been appointed in his place.

Msoa^ a>�E�heUle='letter-spacing:-.25pt'>Justice Ijaz Chaudhary also sought reply from the Punjab government in a petition seeking transfer of prisoners to other jails.

Petitioner Rida Qazi submitted that the Lahore district jail had 4,500 inmates against its capacity of only 1,050. She said inmates held over minor charges were not being released as they could not arrange for surety bonds. The petition said there were no medical facilities for mentally ill patients and drug addicts.
