Memo Scandal Case: LHC to hear arguments on use of lie detectors

LAHORE: Lahore High Court on Friday directed both the petitioner and the respondents in the Memo Scandal case to assist on whether or not the court could issue orders for giving lie detector tests to Hussain Haqqani, Pakistan’s former envoy to the United States.

Iftikhar Rajpoot had filed the petition for registration of a high treason case against the former Pakistani envoy. The petitioner had named Cabinet Secretary Nargis Sethi, Opposition Leader in the National Assembly Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, Interior Minister Rehman Malik and Attorney General Maulvi Anwarul Haq as respondents.

The petitioner had also accused Haqqani of wasting public money by helping pay for the defence of Dr Aafia Siddiqui in US courts. The court will resume hearing of the case on December 20.
