Unusual: Conjoined twins born in Polyclinic

ISLAMABAD: A woman gave birth to conjoined twins in Polyclinic Hospital on Thursday. The twins, both girls, are joined from chest and abdomen. Dr Sharif Astori, the hospital spokesperson, said this was the first time that conjoined twins were born in the hospital, although such cases have been referred to Polyclinic from other hospitals in the past. They were born around noon, Dr Astori said, and were shifted to the Intensive Care Unit. He said the mother, Tanzila, is from Bhara Kahu. He added she was not scheduled to deliver the babies in the hospital and came to the hospital in a state of emergency. The babies were later transferred to the Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences.
