Man booked for giving false info to Rescue 15

First FIR registered by police for fake call to 15 over petty issue.

LAHORE:

The police have registered a first information report against a man for making a false robbery claim in a call to Rescue 15 in Naseerabad police jurisdiction   the first time that such a case has been registered. 

Police officials said that Rashid Khan called Rescue 15 on Sunday claiming that a robber had broken into his property in Makkah Colony by breaking a window on the ground floor. Sub Inspector Shafiq of the Firdous Market police post responded to the call. He found that Khan had lied and registered a case against him under Section 29 of the Telegraph Act. Khan is under arrest.

The police said that the window had actually been broken in a fight between Khan and a man he had rented out some space to set up a shop on the ground floor, one of three shops that were run from the property.

Police officials said that this was the first time in the city that a case had been lodged against a person on the grounds that they made a false claim to Rescue 15. “In the past, cases have been registered against callers who have threatened bombings, but never for minor offences,” he said.

Rescue 15 officials said that they receive about 12,000 calls a day.
