Veena Malik defends ISI tattoo for FHM photo shoot
"In India everything is referred to ISI (Pakistan's spy agency Inter Services Intelligence)", she told Geo TV. "Even if a very small thing happens, they say ISI is behind it. Everybody blames ISI for everything."
Malik said the original idea had been Kabeer Sharma's, editor of FHM's Indian edition, but that the photos had been "morphed".
"He told me that (the tattoo) will be very bold and will cover the upper portion of the body, which it did not.
"I agreed to a photo shoot and having an ISI tattoo in a humorous way but I did not have any nude photos. My pictures have been morphed," said Malik.
"They have the videos of the shoot but it would be in clothes and not without clothes," the actress said.
Also speaking to Geo, Sharma said Malik had been "very excited for this shoot" and the tattoo by the makeup artist had been "in very thin font, but (Malik) asked to make a bold tattoo of ISI".

@Rafi Ka Deewana: Crrection to my earlier post: I meant to say the following: I see no difference between the laws that force women not to wear certain garments and Saudi and Taliban laws that force women to wear the same garments.
@kamran: Modernity here is not in the sense that a Muslim "sister" decided to ditch clothes and just hide whatever she could with her "bare" hands; it is in the sense she did that on her own free will. That's modernity. On the other hand, mullahs force women to wear burqas and hijabs and this and that and stone them to death in football stadiums for simply going out to earn an honest and honorable living; that is backwardness. Just like I will uphold Veena's right to wear whatever she wants to -- or perhaps not even that -- I would uphold the right of a woman to wear a burqa or a hijab or very conservative excessive clothing if she does that on her own free will. That's modernity. That's why I condemn French and Turkish laws disallowing women to wear hijabs and veils. I see no difference between these laws that force women not to wear what Saudi and Taliban laws force them to wear. It's the freedom, stupid, that constitutes modernity, not the stupid clothes. for anyone who is famous, and that person visits another country it is expected that they behave in such a way that reflects their country. in pakistan it is not believed that women have to wear burqas or cover themselves from head to toe, but it is expected that they atleast cover themselves in such a way that it us acceptable to our socciety. pakistan is an islamic state and being muslims we are required to cover our bodies properly. what matters more is the ISI logo,not her nudity. innocent people die all over the world, there are murders, rapes and killings all around the world, so before targetting pakistan research properly to find out what is happening all around the world. innocent people have been killed in iraq, palestine and afghanistan and pakistan is not behind them. its easy to have an opinion about everything and everyone. visit pakistan and then you will know how much respect and importance is given to women in our country. i agree honour killings to do occur but that is what uneducated people do and that is only done by a small fraction of people in pakistan. live in peace friends.

While I don't think that what Veena has done is anything to brag about I think it is her choice
I may have a preference about how my sister dresses but I do not have a veto over her. Nor do I believe that my preference for how my sister should dress should be imposed on everyone else.
Specifically, my mother always dressed modestly in salwar kameez same as my grandmother. Neither of them wore a hijaab - let alone a niqab or burqa. So I would definitely prefer that my sisters do not wear religion on their sleeve. But the fact is that one of my married sister wears a hijaab and another one wears jeans. While as I stated before I prefer salwar kameez I have not tried to impose my views on either the sister who wears hijaab or the one who wears jeans.
Since I do not impose my views on my own sisters you can be sure I would not impose my views on anyone and say that just because I would hate for my sister to wear a burqa that no woman should be allowed to wear one even if she so chooses.

Horrifying to think that Paris Hilton would represent my country or mainly, me, in any way! They represent themselves. They represent the .05%, the elite powers in our country has emotionally neglected, poorly behaved, children. They cry for help, but instead are wrapped in a vail of shallow attentions, untouchable. I may have posted the words "true beauty" in relation to Playboy, though they (used to)display what is naturally beautiful, they do not represent "true beauty". My mistake, words can be difficult and this is why sincere open dialogue is so important for understanding.

Can you believe until just this week the only images of Pakistan women I have seen have been in black Burqas? I am still trying to understand what is it really like in Pakistan.
I stopped watching network news some years ago and now use the internet as my main media source. Facebook and other sociol media is our opportunity to publish ourselves and communicate for the sake of understanding among the people of our Nations without goverment influence, pray that remains. Maybe peace and diplomacy is our responsibility and not for corrupt governments geared toward making war. How can we, the people, make peace?
She most likely saw FHM as an opportunity, but i consider it a lower mentality type magazine. Playboy has much better articles but has lost it's sense of true beauty, women may be nude but it is mostly paint that we see. Most of these pictures are more like fiction, sorry guys, but that is why I would be more inclined to believe her story.

Indians do not like Pakistan because they feel it sponsors terrorism and sends militants to wage a proxy war against India - the bleed India through a thousand cuts ideology. We think you are actually a likeable bunch of people and we still have a lot in common, as you will find whenever you come across the border 3. We are proud that we have almost as many muslims as you people do - and wish that they could be integrated more into the nation without external forces trying to destabilise the fragile balance. At the same time, I acknowledge that we have a long, long way to go. Equitable, inclusive growth is the need of the hour. But the inferiority complex angle is rather laughable and says more about you than it does about 'Bharat'. 4. I would not change the mix of India for a minute - our diversity is our greatest strength. We have stayed so long together despite multiple cultures, languages, cuisines, religions, etc, and this gives us courage to soldier on and solve our problems internally. If we did not have this level of diversity, we would possibly be squabbling amongst ourselves on who is more 'Hindu' than the other - and becoming more like Pakistan. 5. Under no circumstances do we want to add any more territory to India, except maybe to clarify border disputes with China and Pakistan in a reasonable manner. Even if Pakistan came to us on a platter, we would run in the opposite direction - I can assure you this. @Ahmed: Janab Ahmed Sahib, Being "amrikan" has nothing to do with what I said. Being a lover of freedom has a lot to do with my thoughts, though. Every now and then, I come across with "amrikans" born and raised in America by Mullah immigrant parents, and their thought process is as suppressive and rigid as if they were raised in a very backward place like Saudi Arabia, Iran, certain areas of Pakistan, etc. So according to your faulty thinking, they should be buying the magazine in bulk, but I don't think they are doing that. They are probably horrified to see a "sister" in that pose. It's none of anybody's business to pass judgments on Ms. Malik's picture. If they are looking at the picture, they have lost moral authority to judge the woman, unless they don't like it from an art point of view. But one has to me insane not to admire the subject's immense beauty and the picture's artistic message. Actually, Ms. Malik has done a great service to Pakistan: She became the harbinger of an image of beauty, art and softness emanating from Pakistan, from where pictures of horrible-looking mullahs beating and flogging women generally emerge. Adding the ISI tattoo enhanced the art value. I must admire Ms. Malik's creativity. i think this is deplorable- even from a 'modern, westernized' point of view. this would be looked upon as indecent/pornographic in any western culture, not something which represents women's freedom or the 'progress' of a nation. any champion of human rights, women's rights and human dignity will find this cheap and demeaning. having said that, the 'honour' based arguments above are just another manifestation of pakistani custom/culture and frankly, laughable. the religious argument, however, is noteworthy- not because the picture dishonours some self-righteous men but because it dishonours women themselves- Allah has only prohibited things which go against our own fitrah, or pure selves. giving this matter excessive coverage is futile though- let Veena live with her actions and answer to God, especially as the magazine in question has a reputation for doctoring photos.

Amusing how people misuse the word 'boldness' for vulgarity. Within the frame work of islam atleast, this sort of 'boldness' is not allowed. I feel sorry for the poor parents, what must they be going through because of their daughter's 'boldness'. We are not amrikans, or ingraeez, we are a conservative society, and this sort of thing is neither encouraged, nor looked on too favorably. This sort of thing comes with certain 'tags'/names, im sure Ms. Malik must have considered those before sitting for this shoot. Still, I feel for the poor parents.
