KARACHI: Karachi Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI) has requested the president and prime minister to instruct the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources to provide gas connections to industries to produce their own electricity and that the amount of gas be adjusted from the quantum of gas supplied to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC), making industries less dependent on KESC.

In a press statement on Friday, KCCI President Mian Abrar Ahmad said that this was a possible solution to the power crisis in Karachi; and consequently the utility will also be able to easily provide electricity for the rest of the city.

In letters to the president and prime minister of Pakistan, KCCI further expressed deep concern over the energy problems and load shedding in the industries which is causing unprecedented production loss of billions of rupees every day.

The industrialists of Karachi already have to face high cost of doing business due to critical law and order and exorbitant interest rates, Ahmad said.
