Talking to CNN on Monday, Gilani dodged the question of whether relations with US had gone past a point of return, said that the only scenario in which the two countries could continue their relation was if they worked on the principles of mutual respect and mutual interest, which he was not getting from the Americans at the moment.
“If I cannot protect the sovereignty of my country how can I say it is on mutual respect.”
Asked about a solution to continue the stumbling, yet vital alliance, Gilani said that there needs to be bigger assurance from the US, though he did not specify the nature of that concession from the Americans.
“We need to have something bigger to satisfy my nation,” he said, pointing out that the war could only be won by winning the fast souring hearts and minds of the Pakistani people, “for that I have referred to the leadership of my government, members of the parliamentary committee to advise.”
The Prime Minister also said Pakistan is yet to decide, whether to boycott next month's Bonn conference.

@Cautious: It's not the average Pakistani but western sources too that acknowledge that this attack was a travesty - not just an unfortunate mistake. If the West wants Pakistan to work together with them in bringing peace to the region, they have to work in good faith. I think you Indians forget that Pakistan was the key to defeat the Soviets in Afghanistan and end the Cold War. This is why the world knows that no solution is possible without Pakistan.
american have to know that american army not fighting to dis-try the terrorist but they creating the terrorism in afghanistan and pakistan ...now every one have use the common sense that NATO kernels shah ids they pakistani army .....

@hedgefunder: "Using my user name does make you very smart !" Thanks for your kind words.
@hedgefunder: Using my user name does make you very smart ! Just shows how childish you are !!!
I take all my anti-Pakistan words back. From now on, I am pro-Pakistan and love each one of you. I have wasted my time and yours by writing anti-Pakistan stuff. Please forgive me and accept my heartfelt apology. Pakistan zindabad!
If our present government boycotts this Bonn conference, it'll just show they are cowards who have their strings pulled by the US.. do as Bhutto did (Or have you forgotten your party's basic ideology).. go to the conference like men and TALK ABOUT PAKISTAN RIGHTS..and our right not to be attacked ILLEGALLY.. this is the voice of your people.. don't suppress it in front of the world!
We have disease of Alzheimer' - a short memory disorder!! Did we forgot Wiki leaks (about PM Gillani), Bob Woodward's book (about Zardari), OBL case, PNS navel attack, GHQ attack, Raymond Davis case, etc etc
Lets boil the blood so that our military and civil cadre trade with USA for the better DEAL!!!
Why he says that "The Heart of Pakistani People", his heart is not Pakistani and he is not Pakistani too?
These people have 'big hearts' hence it will be business as usual soon Jokes apart, . I can understand that 28 soilders died and nothing can compromise it. but Do not jump to conclusion, NATO cannot make this action as mistake. Either it was intentional or there may be some truth in what they are claiming I.e. firing started from check post first. Hence wait for investigation and then strong action. I mean "action" NOT "words of higher Himalayas & deeper than ocean"
HE is just using these deaths to negotiate some money/arms from US, just like they did in Raymond Davis case. If he was serious about stopping the NATO supply route permanently, he would not say "“We need to have something bigger to satisfy my nation,”
Reading these comments, it is understandable that emotions are quite raw at this stage. But pause for a moment and think about this - According to news on NPR, NATO now gets 40% of their supplies through Pakistan; apparently it was 70% around May ( I don't know whether these numbers are correct or not, I am quoting what I heard on the radio). 40% is still a sizable supply. Why would NATO risk closing of this supply route by this act? Pakistan have shut down the supply route and so NATO knows about the consequences of unwarranted attacks. Exactly, what would they gain by doing this? Per rules of engagement in any armed conflict in the world, when an army is under attack, they are trained to return fire. What other explanation is there?
So now it will business as 'unusual' (you keep attaching and we will keep condemning)...just wait for few years...we will know how business was...after the wikileaks 2.
I say we take USA to a ride in The Grave Yard Of Empires .. Lets revive the spirit within
@hedgefunder: Just as an FYI - Pakistan's Military has mentioned explicitly to US that they dont need US-AID - which was confirmed by US through to follow up phone call to General Khyani to which Khyani mentioned "we mean't what we have said". Thank you for your anti-Pakistan comments
“We need to have something bigger to satisfy my nation,”
Bring a bigger "KUSHKOOL" this time we have to balance the blood of our Soldiers.
Fascinating --- the average Pakistani is well aware that both the govt and the military are notorious for not telling the truth -- but when it comes to saying something nasty about American's suddenly everyone is a true believer. For some reason the history of Pakistani troops unprovoked firing on NATO helicopters near the border isn't relevant, Galani wants mutual respect -- that's admirable -- so how about maintaining some semblance of objectivity on why NATO would attack one of your outpost without provocation.
Time to give a befitting response to US otherwise just withdraw our independence and declare ourselves as 51st state of US!!
Empty vessels.....................
"His Master's Voice"
trust me.. they will allow the NATO supplies to Afghanistan in less then a week.
US cheated again. Musharaf assured the nation of US support but we all know that it was just between US and Musharaf.
The attack on Pakistan is more serious than 9/11 when individuals not army involved. Here a highly sophisticated army with world class info system at their disposal comitted a serious crime.
This should bring everyone in line................................Pak is irreplacable, like it or not, seriously!
Good Decision, it time to do some thing for Pakistan
Is it not amazing that Prime Ministers gets free time to give interview to CNN or international media - How many interview are being given to local media where tough questions are being asked? It probably shows where the priority is for this so called democratic govt.
I think in one of the talk shows it was mentioned that Pakistan gets some 400+Rs for each container. That shows the level of business Pakistani politicians do with US in the name of Pakistan's interest or an ally on war or terror.
worth reading to understand what our leader may mean:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/urdu/pakistan/2011/11/111127baatseybaatral.shtml
The attack was carried out by NATO to make a wedge in the Defences of Pakistani troops and launch terrorists from the gap created, into Pakistan as they had been doing it from Kunar valley. It was a well thought over and coordinated attack by NATO and Afghan national Army in support of terrorists. Shame fully UN condenmend actions of Syrian government but is keeping mum on this act.
Good Decision, Severe the Ties, US is no more Trustworthy and also its Power is declining, Better go with China, which is the Next SuperPower and u can be the Main Ally of it..Then No Country can dare to attack You...Investorpedia
No more diplomacy please.
We have been playing in the hands of US and the time has come to tell to US that if she would not respect Pakistan’s sovereignty, we would be compelled to think otherwise.
Let’s call it a day when Pakistan would not need US any more. If US want to maintain relations on the basis of equality, then it is ok, otherwise Pakistan has the guts to become Venezuela or North Korea who do not give any respect to US.
Now the ball is in US court. Time has come for Uncle Sam to go back home. Pakistani knows very well how to protect their mother land.
"Unprovoked" in quotes? Come on, Tribune, liberalism doesn't translate to naïveté and blind pro-American sentiments. Let's get real here. .
We should boycott Bonn conference, there would be no end game without PAKISTAN if we don't attend Bonn. We should tax heavily each and every NATO container. Road tax for using our roads. The the routes through through central Asia and or airlift /air bridge is thrice times costlier for USA/Nato. But now given MFN status to India is going to be used for NATO and USA supplies through India for new route to Afghanistan. This was planned attack by NATO/USA/Afghanistan on innocent Pakistanis guarding our border, they were not Taliban.
Why he needs to mention the HEARTS of pakistani people? Can't he just say something else like the interests.
