At the age of 87, Doris Day is not exactly pop music’s latest hot young artist. But this week the star of film, TV and music returns to the US record world, which she conquered more than 60 years ago, with a new album, My Heart.
The CD, which hits record stores and websites December 2, is filled with old standards like “My Buddy”, previously unreleased tunes such as “Stewball”, about a race horse she loved, and pop hits of the 1960s and ‘70s such as “Daydream” and “You Are So Beautiful”.
Day, whose first hit was “Sentimental Journey”(1945), went from big band singer to movie star of the 1950s and ‘60s. She became the quintessential All-American girl with films such as Calamity Jane and Pillow Talk, opposite Rock Hudson. In the late 1960s, she moved to TV where she starred in “The Doris Day Show”.
But after that show ended in 1973, Day stepped out of the Hollywood limelight, moved to California’s Central Coast and devoted herself to helping animals through various charitable groups, including the Doris Day Animal Foundation.
Day released the songs for My Heart because she wanted to help animals — sales proceeds go to her animal foundation — and she dedicated the song “My Buddy” to her son, the late songwriter Terry Melcher, who died in 2004 after battling melanoma. “He really was my buddy,” Day said about her son. “I wanted that song to be there because it was for him and, well, all I can say is that I miss him very much.”

Doris Day, what a delight it was to see her movies and listen to her sing, 'The Deep Blue Sea'! How radiant she looks at 87. I wanted to know where she was and what she had been doing all these years and now this news.
Halleluyah... What a blessing this Lady was to my childhood..and a blessing now I am older As our love of animals is the same. I have wanted for many years to communicate my admiration of her, to her and didn't know how. Finally technology has made this possible. I am so happy she has done this...my only question is what took her so long? I will be one of the 1st in line to purchase one. Good for you Doris, you may have been out of the public eye for a while but NOT out of the hearts of those you brought so much joy to in their childhood I have so much respect for you..I'v rescued things my whole life which many or most don't understand why. I believe it's about respect and as the Creator implores us to "CHOOSE LIFE" YAHWEY BLESS YOUR PROJECT. Love, Karen Bissell.
Wow....how thrilling to hear that this icon of American entertainment is releasing a new cd! The sound of her voice, specifically "Doris Day's Greatest Hits" was a familiar part of my childhood in the early 60's as she was a favorite of my mother. She did it all, movies, TV, and the music! In her day - no computers or voice machines, it was all her. I once read that the recording of "Secret Love" was done in one take- that after she sang the last verse the producer said "it's never gonna be better than that". I agree with the person who would love to see her do Jay Leno! ...can you imagine?
Such a beautiful lady inside and out. I will support her music because I am also an animal lover. Wish she would make tv appearances. Would love to see her. Very classy lady.
I am thrilled and so very anxious for December 2 to arrive, so I can "run to the Mall and buy our Doris Day's Album."
I am named after the "Beautiful Lady." My Mother always said, "You have a beautiful smile like Doris Day." WoW, I felt like I was already to start singing, "On Moonlight Bay." Which I use to pretend a broom was Gordon and of course I was Doris.
I wish Doris would make an appearance on "Jay Leno Show" the world would love to see her again.
She will never know all the "wonderful happy hours" she gave to me, my family and the public.
So come on Doris, WE LOVE YOU AND WANT TO SEE YOU, PLEASE !!!!
Stay healthy and happy.
Sincerely, Doris
