New assignment: Sherry Rehman prepares for ambassadorial job
To prepare for arguably the country’s most complex bilateral relationship, ambassador-designate to the US, Sherry Rehman, met the president, the foreign minister and foreign secretary on Thursday.
President Asif Ali Zardari’s press office said that the meeting focused on matters pertaining to her new assignment. Rehman earlier served as the information minister for the incumbent government.
The president congratulated Rehman on her new assignment and urged her to concentrate on further enhancing the Pak-US bilateral relations with a focus on strengthening democracy and democratic institutions and trade, commercial and investment ties.
Rehman thanked the president for the trust and confidence he had reposed in her and assured that she will perform her responsibilities as ambassador of Pakistan in a spirited manner and with full devotion. She said she will earnestly work to augment Pakistan’s bilateral relations with the US and endeavour to defend interests of Pakistan at all international forums especially in Washington.
Separately, she also held a meeting with Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar and Foreign Secretary Salman Bashir where she was advised on Pak-US relations.
Khar, who was named foreign minister in July in an equally surprising appointment, congratulated Rehman on her nomination, wishing her “all the success.”

Holy Jesus! A sound decision by the current government. Sherry Rehman is an excellent appointment. Might be the only 'win' the PPP government has relating to foreign policy.
I hope that the newly appointed Ambassador Ms. Sherry Rahman will be able to present the soft image of Pakistan during her tenure in US.
I also expect the same from Hina Rabbani Khar.
Hope we will be able to have some good news from there.

So how's that Abbottabad investigation coming? That's going to be a popular question asked by the American's. The prior Ambassador has promised the American's that the the focus of the Abbottabad investigation was going to be finding those who were hiding OBL --- it would appear that the real purpose of the investigation is to root out anyone who might have helped the American's find OBL.
Hina and Rabbani are now at the fore front . The responsibilities very challenging in nature when the U.S and Pak relation is at the brink . Both of them have to accomodate aspirations of world community regrding the terrorism , very tactfully ,to move ahead .
this is few of good things ppp govt has done.
Your Excellency Madam Sherry Rehman, your father was my Vice Chancellor at University of Sind, then you were just a new born baby. May you be brave, be bold, be honest, be sincere, be sensible, be successful, be straightforward and absolutely selfish in protecting the interests of Pakistan.
