Nawaz says he will argue in court himself
PML-N files petition, proposes travel ban on outgoing envoy to US.
LAHORE:
Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N)’s chief Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said he would deliver part of the arguments in the Supreme Court over the memogate issue.
Besides the Supreme Court, Nawaz said, he would speak on the issue outside the court, and at public gatherings as well.
All faces behind this memo conspiracy should be unmasked, the PML-N chief said, addressing a ceremony at the Alhamra Hall. “I don’t have any personal agenda behind the writ petition over the memo issue,” Nawaz said, adding, “we just want to disclose all hidden faces.”
Placing Haqqani on ECL
Meanwhile, Sharif filed a petition in the Supreme Court to place former ambassador to US Husain Haqqani on the Exit Control List (ECL). Senior lawyer and former Supreme Court Judge Fakhruddin G Ebrahim filed the petition on Nawaz’s behalf.
The petitioner said they feared that Haqqani would either fly out of the country, or be forced to leave, because of the judicial proceedings against him.
Earlier on Wednesday, Nawaz filed a constitutional petition in the Supreme Court, seeking a probe into the memogate scandal.
President Asif Ali Zardari, Chief of Army Staff General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani, ISI chief Shuja Pasha, ambassador Haqqani, Mansoor Ijaz, the foreign secretary and the federation have been made parties to the case in the petition.
