NEW DELHI:

Traditional cotton textile with embroidery, aromatic spices and handicrafts emerged as huge hits for Pakistani traders at the annual India International Trade Fair (IITF).

“I have been receiving good response from customers, whose numbers keep on increasing even on business days,” Sayyada Dhanji, partner in textile firm Mars Hoor Gallery, told India Asian News Service.

The Karachi-based businesswoman, who has been coming to India since 1998, said cultural similarities between people of both countries, especially in clothing, attract Indian customers.

“This is not an unusual trend and happens always with Pakistani goods, specifically textiles, spices, handicrafts and leather products. I am expecting a sell-out during the weekend.”

Dhanji expected her business to increase in India. “I have always dreamt of a day when I can sell my products at competitive rates and now with MFN (most-favoured nation) status, I do not need to wait for IITF every year. I am ready to sell throughout the year in India.” Pakistan with a presence of 70 traders at the fair is one of the biggest foreign contingents with presence from textile firms including Laila Art, Rohhirung & Nadia’s and handicraft maker Warsi Impex, which have been coming to India for over a decade. Indian shopping list from Pakistani stalls include textiles and Lahore footwear.
