‘Honourable’ Ends: Woman killed by nephew to ‘protect’ family name

FAISALABAD:

A young man shot and killed his aunt after suspecting her of having had an affair.

According to police officials, Loonaywala Chak No134 resident Naseem Bibi got divorced from her husband a few months ago and had shifted to her parents’ house. Residents said that Naseem was involved with a young man in her village and that her parents and nephew had told her to end the relationship.

Naseem’s nephew, Ashraf Ali, shot her on Sunday in the presence of her parents. “He was protecting our honour. I told my daughter to end her affair but she refused and she was ruining our reputation,” said Naseem’s mother, Sughran Bibi.

Naseem’s neighbour Muhammad Ameen told the police that before killing Naseem, Ali had tortured her mercilessly.

“She was begging for mercy but the entire family stood by and watched her get beaten. Then he shot her and no one did anything. We called the police,” he said.  Police officials took the body into custody and sent it to morgue. Station house officer (SHO) Rajoa Syeda said a case had been registered.
