Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Mohammad Behzad said, “electricity exports to Pakistan will increase step by step.” He said this while highlighting the recent proposal sent by Pakistan’s government to increase power import from Iran.
Iran’s Energy Minister Majid Namjou said that by the next three years, the country will increase the electricity exports to Pakistan by 1,000 megawatts and that Iran was working on a new power grid in order to deliver electricity to Pakistan.
Amid Pakistan’s crippling energy crisis, the Pakistani government has announced curtailment of gas to industries for two months in the winter in order to keep homes heated.
Iran currently exports about 100 megawatts of electricity to Pakistan, an official said.
Iran also showed interest to export surplus electricity to all neighbouring countries including Pakistan.
Behzad announced that Iran's power grid will soon be connected to those of Southern Persian Gulf littoral states.
The Iranian deputy energy minister also said that Iran’s power exports are expected to reach a mark of $1billion in the current Iranian year which started on March 21.
Iran's electricity network is connected into the power grids of seven neighboring countries, including Afghanistan, Pakistan, Iraq, Turkey, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan.

@Ghulam-e-Mola Ali: Your victim-of-the-US obsession blinds you. The US and Israel are not the only countries that support much of the anti-Iran actions. This is why you can't make any progress. Even if given a choice, you'll always choose the ones that alienates the majority of the world for the sake of your conspiracy theories and excuses.
we are buying this energy from Iran..Iran is not doing welfare for us in this export deal.
True friend ...true friend.. only a Muslim or Chinese can be our friends...
we need energy as the country is in a serious crisis.its true we welcome electricity import from iran more than we do it from india.reason is simple there is a general mistrust for india.where the situation is not the same for iran.and u cant blame pk for this lack of trust...the historical pattern of pks relations with india does nt allow us to trust india so easily....iran is a muslim country has never had such a fractured relationship with pk....but i see things will change both countries ll bury the hatchet and should and will evolve as good trading partners...import of electricity should benefit pakistan be it from india or iran.
Well I don't understand the above Pakistanis comment...there is another news - where Pakistan planned to buy 500 MW power from India and in that post we can see all negative comments from Pakistanis saying we have to generate power in Pakistan and not to buy from India, but hear they are praising Iran!!!...For @G.Din it's a grand neighborly act!!! - where us if India sells then it's RAW or Jews plan to keep Pakistan away from developing it's own power generation...come-on guys get out of your religious bigot mind set and think progressive, power from Iran or India will give you same shock when you touch it, it's not that Iran power will give you soothing feeling when you touch it because of Islamic country, oppose both or accept both in same way... By the way I believe if Pakistan can make it's nuclear bomb - it won't take much time for you to develop electricity from Nuclear reactors...
Thanks, we sure need that stuff.
Now, that is a grand neighourly act. I hope, we can build on that!
Iran is great country. really we have to go on same path instead of we just follow USA. We have to stand up on our own foots and take full action for taliban.
