417 college teachers transferred in Sindh

KARACHI: On the advice of the provincial education department, 417 teachers of colleges in Sindh, including Karachi, have been shuffled by the Sindh government.

This is the first time that transfers on such a large scale have taken place, said an education department official.

According to the notification, some teachers have been transferred from Karachi to Larkana and Nawabshah while others have been shuffled around cities in interior Sindh. Many unhappy teachers have contacted the Sindh Secretariat to stop their transfers but they have yet to hear from the government.

Transfer orders have been passed for 176 lecturers, 234 stunt professors and seven associate professors. Forty-seven teachers of grade-18 have been transferred from Karachi, 96 from Sukkur, 10 from Mirpurkhas, eight from Larkana and 73 stunt professors have been transferred from Hyderabad.

Ninety-three lecturers of grade-17 have been transferred from Karachi, 13 from Larkana, 24 from Mirpurkhas, four from Sukkur and four lecturers were transferred from Hyderabad. Seven associate professors of grade-19 have been transferred, among them five belong to Karachi, one from Larkana and one from Mirpurkhas.

Additional Secretary Education Rizwan Awan told Daily Express that the teachers have been shuffled to overcome shortages in certain colleges.

Among associate professors, Farkhanda Zainab was transferred from Government Girls College Zamzama to Government College for Women Sharae Liaquat. Salahuddin Zaheer has been shifted from Allama Iqbal Government College to Government Degree Boys College Korangi. Nusrat Haq from Government Islamia Arts and Science College No. 1 will now teach at PECHS College.

It was also learnt that some old teachers, who have resisted transfers in the past by using contacts, have also been shuffled this time.
