KARACHI: Differences within the coalition deepened on Wednesday as the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and Awami National Party (ANP) blamed each other for patronising the power of the land mafia, believed to be behind the target killings in the city.

The parties had met to evolve a strategy against the killings, but could not reach a consensus after a list of alleged land mafia leaders was presented. Kachchi abadis minister Rafiq Engineer objected, saying that Mujjahid Jokhio belonged to the PPP and his name had been included in the list with mala fide intention.Local bodies minister Agha Siraj Durrani said that he had been wrongly linked with the mafia, along with home minister Zulfikar Mirza.
