Suicide: Love-struck man drinks acid

Doctors said Hussain’s oesophagus, a muscular tube through which food passes to the stomach, had been badly damaged.

RAWALPINDI: Finding no hope of marrying his significant other, Shadab Hussain, 24, consumed acid on Wednesday. He died later in the hospital. A colleague of Hussain, who is a shoe salesman at Service Shoes at Commercial Market Rawalpindi, said he drank acid in the basement of the shop while on duty and fell unconscious. He was quickly taken to Holy Family Hospital and was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit. Doctors said that due to excessive acidity Hussain’s oesophagus, a muscular tube through which food passes to the stomach, had been badly damaged. Nazrat, Hussain’s uncle, said he was depressed because it was not possible for his parents to convince the girl’s family to let the two get married. Another member of Hussain’s family said that the girl had vowed to Hussain that if he committed suicide she will follow.
