
The development stems from the British authorities’ response to a 2007 letter sent by Delhi Police in which details of a key suspect – London-based bookie Sanjiv Chawla – were sought.
The Delhi police are now reportedly waiting on a forensic laboratory report connected to the Cronje case, and have also been provided with additional information by the British authorities to assist them in their investigation.
Following match-fixing allegations levelled against the South African in 1999, Cronje was forced to step down as captain of the national team. He died in an airplane crash in 2002 before he could
be charged.
It is believed that the conviction of Salman Butt, Mohammad Asif and Mohammad Amir has led
to revived interest in the Cronje case.
