Off the Rails: Sialkot junction stands empty

SIALKOT: The Sialkot junction railway station has been completely deserted following the closure of four main trains including the Samma Satta Express, Passenger Express, Rail Car and Sialkot Express. Only one main train, the Sialkot-Lahore-Karachi bound Allama Iqbal Express is currently plying from the station and residents have been protesting against the trains’ closure for days. Railway officials said that the situation had also reduced revenue of Pakistan Railways from Rs100 million annually at Sialkot railway to less than half that amount. Shop owners said  “We had lots of clients from different cities who no longer come here”.
