Targeted violence: ANP activist, son of former DIG traffic killed

According to the police, Nawaz was the former in-charge of the PECHS area and lived near Lal Kothi on Sharae Faisal.

KARACHI:

An activist of the Awami National Party (ANP) and the young son of the former deputy inspector general of traffic police (Traffic) were gunned down in separate incidents on Tuesday.

Gul Nawaz, ANP activist, was shot dead by two men riding a motorcycle when he was sitting with his friends in Block 6 of PECHS Society.

According to the police, he was the former in-charge of the PECHS area and lived near Lal Kothi on Sharae Faisal. His body was taken to Jinnah hospital.

Initial investigations suggest that Nawaz might have been killed over a personal enmity, according to SHO Chaudhry Irshad, but nothing can be said till the investigation is finalised. Tension prevailed in PECHS and its surrounding areas after the killing. There was aerial firing and a poultry truck was set on fire. A heavy contingent of law enforcers was deployed in the area. Nawaz’s brother, Ayaz Khan, lodged an FIR against unidentified men.

The ANP spokesman condemned the incident and demanded that the government and law enforcement agencies arrest the attackers.

Separately, 23-year-old Mubashir, the son of former DIG traffic, Muhammad Omar, was shot dead on main Korangi Road near Kala Pul. DSP Ameer Abbasi said that he was on his way home to Defence Phase VI, when armed motorcyclists opened fire at his car with a 9mm pistol.  The police registered a case under the Anti-Terrorism Act against unidentified gunmen on the request of Mubashir’s uncle, Mazhar.
