The men, three aged 19 and one 24, were detained under counter-terror laws in the Sparkhill area on suspicion of fundraising for terrorist purposes and of travelling to Pakistan to undertake terrorist training.
Other charges the suspects faced included collecting money for terrorism, travelling to Pakistan for training in bomb making and making a "martyrdom" film.
"Today's arrests were pre-planned and not made in response to any immediate threat to public safety. Officers were unarmed," said a statement from West Midlands Police.
They are the latest arrests in a counter-terror investigation in Britain's second biggest city which was launched in September.
Police say eight people have so far been charged as part of the probe, with seven remanded in custody after appearing in court in London.
Three men were charged with "planning a bombing campaign" and "stating an intention to be a suicide bomber".

@ukmuslim: Sorry I did miss a good humour. Thanks
@Zaid Hamid Lal Topi good one. unfortunately ksri and VINOD missed a good humour.
@ksri: error. I fully agree. Time to strike at the root. The seed was put by Zia Sahib and it has become a huge tree of hatred and terror. Time to wake up.
@Zaid Hamid Lal Topi: What you read in the textbooks is not history, but distortion of facts. What is the government trying to do by misleading the young and impressionable minds. It is time government constitutes experts to rewrite the history books.
@Mj: In ancient times (Hindu era), royals, people used to travel to Taxila University (Old Takhashila) for education in administration, science, political science etc.. Now, in todays pakistan, they travel for terrorist training.
Area is same, education is same - only syallabus is changed.
Enjoy.
Such news items always invite conspiracy theorists saying that the world is always ready to defame the Pakistan, the land of the pure. They never tell you why should the world be engaged in this game. They seem to forget that Pakistan is a failed/failing state and has nothing to offer to the rest of the world. The Pakistanis arrested the news item above says were going on a trip to learn how to make bombs etc. Now were these boys were doing this? Why were they not employed and working like many of their compatriots? Who was supporting them and why? These guys should be jailed for a very long time.
5 months also they arrested 2 Pakistanis on terror charges now both of them have been released last month.
It's amusing how some Pakistanis act like they're discriminated against as if it were equal to things like the slave trade and Africans. Sorry to say, you guys bring it on yourselves, unlike the others being abused while minding their own business.
You guys either make bad company from your victim game or are justifying the deaths of the people who actually help you. Yeah, it's not fair to make it sound like it's every Pakistani. But that's what happens when you frequently allow the people who do those things speak for you to the world without even a small amount of resistance.
Definitely a MI6 conspiracy.. carried out by James Bond.add to that list supported by M, Moneypenny & Q too...with RAW, CIA, KHAD, Taco Bell, KFC, Mc Donalds, TATA, Birla and others supporting them...
Not a conspiracy, but these are real issues. Pakistani/Azad-Kashmir youth in UK is terribly lost between conflicting religious, social and cultural values. The extremist elements know too well to take advantage of this situation and they are able to easily mould these youths to suite their agenda. I have seen these issues first hand and I understand how these reports might be accurate.
No conspiracy would affect Pakistan if Pakistan wouldn't provide a supple base to build the conspiracy upon in the first place.
"..... travelling to Pakistan to undertake terrorist training" . The British police had local PAK police help in this investigation ?
@Shahid Kureshi: @:|:
you are right folks... it is conspiracy to defame PAK name of pakistan.
How unfortunate is that people travel to Pakistan not for education or tourism, but to learn how to destroy and terrorize. Almost every terrorist in the last decade has had training or some links from Pakistan.
Wonder why no one has any thing to say. Is the silence due to shock or a tacit sympathy?
Tomorrow they will start arresting young Pakistanis on the pretext that they were dreaming about terrorist activity. What rubbish.
