Judges appointment: SHC wants record of Judicial Commission’s proceedings

Recommendations of JC and the Parliamentary Committee will be compared.

KARACHI: A full bench of High Court of Sindh, comprising of Justice Maqbool Baqar, Justice Faisal Arab and Justice Sajjad Ali Shah,summoned the proceedings and entire record of Judicial Commission about deliberations and recommendations regarding the appointments of judges to the provincial high courts and Supreme Court.

The bench earlier heard Deputy Attorney General Ashik Raza, Dr Farough Naseem, President Sindh High Court Bar Association Anwar Mansoor Khan and a representative of the NGO challenging judges’ appointments.

The bench said that it will also go through the recommendations of Judicial Commission and records to compare the commission’s recommendations to that of the Parliamentary Committee.

The proceedings were put off till Nov 28 and the State  was directed to submit the entire record of the proceeding of the Judicial Commission and recommendations.

Hundreds of cases were adjourned today due to paucity of time and shortage of judges as court functioned only till 11am due to a full court reference in honour of Justice Gulzar Ahmed who had been elevated to the apex court.

The adjourned cases included three appeals in Daniel Pearl murder case, one filed by State seeking enhancement of sentence awarded to three co-accused. Ahmed Omar Shaikh, main accused in case, has been sentenced to death by an Anti Terrorism Court.
