KARACHI:

President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday advised Sindh Government and National Fertiliser Corporation to provide fertilisers to farmers on top priority in rain-affected areas of the province to ensure on time cultivation of Rabi crop.

Presiding a meeting on fertiliser requirement for Rabi crop at Bilawal House, he said early supply of fertilisers would enable growers to sow their crops well in time.

Zardari had directed the provincial government and NFC earlier this week to arrange locally produced fertilisers to farmers as availability of imported ones will take some more time.

Sindh Agriculture Department had proposed a package costing Rs4.4 billion to be equally footed by federal and provincial governments for growers of flood and rain-affected districts.

Furthermore, wheat would be cultivated on 1.1 million acres and its seeds provided to affected farmers at 50 kilograms per acre with one bag of urea weighing 50 kg. Sindh Government has also already released Rs1 billion from its share in the first phase.
