Ms Khairunnisa approached the SHC to seek her grandson’s release from SIU’s illegal detention as well as registering an FIR against them. She claimed that Rangers personnel on motorcycle took away her grandson, Ali Arsalan Akhtar, from limits of Saeedabad police station, Karachi. She approached the police where officials did not disclose Akhtar's whereabouts.
Later, Rangers handed over Akhtar to SIU officials, who had allegedly kept him in illegal detention without disclosing details of any charge against him.
Ms Khairunnisa’s counsel, Farkhunda Jabin, stated this was a violation of Articles 4, 9 & 10 of the Constitution and prayed to the direct respondents to disclose Akhtar's whereabouts.
It was also requested that the Inspector General (IG) Sindh be directed to order a registration of SIU officials involved in the illegal detention.
SHC division bench, headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam, issued notice to respondents, DAG & AG Sindh for November 16, 2011.
