Hussain ousted from judo event
The 18-year-old was participating in the 100-kilogramme (kg) category and was Pakistan’s lone representative in the tournament after the national junior champion Samiullah failed to acquire a South African visa in time.
The tournament was also serving as a qualifying round for the 2012 London Olympics and Hussain needed to finish among the top seven players in the tournament to stand a chance for the mega event. However, Hussain finished outside the top seven.
According to the Pakistan Judo Federation Secretary Masood Ahmed, Hussain still has a chance to qualify for the Olympics.
“Losing here is not the end of it,” Ahmed told The Express Tribune. “Hussain can still participate in the judo World Cup which starts on December 2 in South Korea, and a good performance there can brighten his chances of making it to the Olympics.”
