A young man killed a woman and then committed suicide on Sunday.
According to police officials, the woman was a mother of four and was allegedly having an affair with Khairpur Mahuta resident Safdar Abbas.
“Neighbours said that the pair was often seen in each others company after Zeba’s husband moved overseas,” said police inspector Qazim Rasul.
“Zeba tried to end the relationship because she feared that her in-laws had begun to suspect that she was seeing someone and would tell her husband,” a neighbour Rabia Bibi told police, adding that Zeba’s husband Akhtar Shameem was working in Italy for the past couple of years. On Sunday, Alpa resident Abbas visited Zeba and neighbours said that they heard the two quarrel loudly on Friday evening. “She kept telling him to leave and called in her servants to remove him from her house but he refused to leave. A crowd gathered outside after he began accusing her and threatening her but eventually we all threw him out,” Saleem, a neighbour, told police officials.
“Zeba was a mother of four children and she was trying to get her children in a room away from all the commotion while Abbas kept making threats” Rabia told police officials.
Locals in the village told police officials that they did not know when the actual murder occurred. “We went to look in on her the next day but she was okay and we thought nothing of it,” Saleem said.
Police officials said that they received a tip off that a body had been spotted in a field near Zeba’s house in the village on Sunday afternoon and a police team arrived at the scene. “We received a call and immediately reached the spot,” Rasul said. The investigation team sent the body for an autopsy and DHQ hospital officials said that Zeba had been strangled to death and severely beaten.
“There are marks on her neck that indicate she was strangled and she was severely bruised,” said Dr Asad Javed.
Police officials said that they had registered a case and had found the body of the accused.
“Abbas killed himself and his body was found hanging from a tree in the same field,” Inspector Rasul said.
Rasul said that both bodies had been sent for an autopsy and that police were investigating the case further.
