Tribal justice: Jirga asks man to pay Rs750,000

SUKKUR: A man from the Darya Khan Gabole village near Mirpur Mathelo was asked to pay Rs750,000 to his in-laws by a jirga for killing his wife 10 days ago. Suleman Gabole could not be present as he was in police custody, his brother Rahib spoke to the jirga on his behalf. Suleman’s wife was represented by her father Gul Hasan. After listening to both sides of the case, the jirga decided that Suleman was guilty for killing Mai Sughra and had to pay a fine of Rs750,000. Rahib accepted the verdict and paid Rs140,000. He said that the rest would be paid in the next ten days. Sources claim that Suleman and Mai Sughra were married one and a half years ago and he used to hit her. They added that whenever Mai Sughra had gone to live with her parents and Suleman had always come to apologise. The jirga was led by two tribal elders, Khalil Ahmed Gabole and Abdul Razzaq Gabole.
