"Five attackers were involved, two of them detonated at the beginning at the gates and the other three were shot dead by security forces," said Delawar Shah Delawar, deputy police chief for western province Herat.
"It's over now," said Delawar, adding that two Afghan guards of the company were killed.
A spokesman for the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force said it had provided ground and air support for the operation.
Noor Khan Nekzad, a regional police spokesman, said foreign forces killed the insurgents but the ISAF spokesman, who did not want to be quoted by name, could not confirm this.
The attack on logistics company ES-KO, which is based in Monaco, happened on the outskirts of Herat city, a few hundred metres from ISAF's headquarters in western Afghanistan, which is Italian-led, and also close to Herat airport.
