Pointing fingers: PML-N ‘surprised’ at attacks on offices

While they do not blame the PPP as a whole, they feel the ‘Zardari group’ is responsible.

KARACHI:

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief organiser Saleem Zia has blamed the Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) ‘Zardari group’ for the arson attacks on party offices in Sindh.

“We are surprised that there is such a reaction,” Zia told reporters on Friday. “Their anger could have been expressed in another way.” Zia said he does not believe the PPP as a whole is involved but the ‘Zardari group’ is.

“It is upsetting that the parties that talk of reconciliation and democracy are involved in this,” he said.

Zia also alleged that the PML-N has only been able to register one police case of the arson amid stiff official resistance.

This despite the fact that ten party offices were burned and firing was reported from areas where the party has a presence, he added.

Party leader Nihal Hashmi claimed that the PPP was upset over PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif’s recent visits to Sindh to meet with flood survivors. Elaborating on this, Zia said, “Every party is doing its own work and we work in all the provinces. These visits cannot be used as a pretext for violence.”

Zia claimed that the PML-N is the “only” party that does not have a militant wing, as stated by the Chief Justice of Pakistan and the Supreme Court.

The party, he said, would not respond to violence with violence, but its leaders will be speaking publicly about the issue. Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and Mushahid Ullah Khan also plan to move adjournment motions in the National Assembly and Senate, respectively.

The PML-N leader told The Express Tribune that Nawaz Sharif may visit Sindh again after Eid-ul Azha, to tour flood-hit areas and meet party workers and key people in the province.

Surprised? Come on, at first maybe. But hindsight really should be kicking in right now. They tried creating and angry crowd and it instigated another angry crowd into action.

That doesn't make what they did right. But, surprised at something like that? In Pakistan? Really?
