The Rawalpindi board’s examination controller was removed from his post for the HSSC-I results fiasco on Tuesday.
Two junior officials of the Rawalpindi Board of Intermediate and Secondary Education (RBISE) were also suspended by the Punjab Higher Education Department.
Officials in the board told The Express Tribune that the education department secretary directed examination controller Amjad Iqbal Bhara to report to his mother department of school education after multiple discrepancies were detected during the re-checking of the results announced on October 17.
Additionally, RBISE Chairperson Dr Muhammad Qasim suspended Assistant Secretary Secrecy Branch Safdar Farrukhi and Assistant Programmer Computer Branch Muhammad Asif for showing ineptness in preparing and managing the results.
“Many irregularities have been detected while rechecking the HSSC-I results,” said one of the official associated with the process.
“Many marks’ lists sent by the examiners were found missing and different marks were inserted by computers instead of the actual ones,” he added.
The official, asking for anonymity, said the two junior officials were suspended and issued show cause notices after the authorities found that the secrecy branch failed to collect the answer sheets within the specified time and the computer branch failed to insert exact marks of the candidates.
RBISE started rechecking HSSC-I papers on the directions of Punjab government following charged protests by students.
Dr Qasim could not be reached for his comments.
