ISLAMABAD:

The World Bank has expressed reservations about Federal Board of Revenue’s inability to compile an active taxpayer list in the category of direct taxes and a bank mission is coming next month to review this process and the tax administration reforms programme.

Following a review of the WB-supported reforms programme, the bank would decide whether to extend it by one year or start a new programme, an FBR official said.

Though the FBR has prepared active taxpayer list in sales tax category, but in income tax it has yet to compile the list. According to the official, the World Bank had asked the FBR that the taxpayers who came under the active list should be offered tax refunds on a fast track basis. A new facility is being introduced which will facilitate the taxpayers in getting refunds and tax credit directly through a bank.
