A 16-year-old boy killed a labourer while driving around with his friend on Thursday.
Khalil Ahmed, 55, was polishing chairs under the shadow of a tree on a road in Latifabad Unit 6 when the accident took place. His son Saleem was a witness and said that his father died on the way to hospital.
Dressed in a crisp school uniform, 16-year-old Jahanzeb told his family that he was on his way to school on Thursday. However, instead of heading towards school, he went to pick up his friend Asif Bhatti. The two boys decided to bunk school and drive around town. Bhatti was driving the car when the accident took place.
They were unable to escape as their car rammed into the tree.
The witnesses handed them over to the police. B-Section police station Sub-inspector Shahid Abbassi said that the two boys were in police custody but no FIR had been registered. Saleem told The Express Tribune that the family will file a case after the funeral.
According to the Pakistan Penal Code’s section 320, the suspects can be imprisoned for a maximum of ten years.
