Squash: Iqbal, Khalid clinch Punjab Open

KARACHI: Nasir Iqbal clinched the men’s singles title at the Punjab National Open Squash Championship after defeating Tayyab Aslam 3-0 in the tournament’s final, while Zoya Khalid won the women’s singles event, beating Rushna Mehboob 3-0 in Lahore. Aslam gave a hard time to Iqbal early on in the match but the latter succeeded in winning the tie-break 12-10. From that point on, Iqbal made no mistakes in taking the second set 11-7 and the third 11-3 to secure victory. Meanwhile, in the women’s event, Khalid took the opening two sets 11-9, 11-7 but Mehboob refused to give up and took the third set into a tie-break. Khalid eventually prevailed over her opponent by claiming the third set 17-15.
