SIALKOT:

Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif will lay the foundation stone for a 20 MW hydro power project at Head Marala near Sialkot on Tuesday.

The project will help curb the energy crisis in the Sialkot region and PML-N central leader Khawaja Muhammad Asif told reporters that the hydro power project would provide the uninterrupted supply of electricity to the export industries in Sialkot. “This project will help reduce problems in this area. Sialkot is one of Punjab’s industrial centres and it has been suffering immensely because of the power crisis,” he said. Asif said that the Punjab government was determined to provide necessary amenities to the people. Asif said that the Punjab government has started work on a mega project of establishing 200 MW hydro power projects along the canal system in Punjab. This project will also act as a role model for the other provinces in the country to take initiative in this regard.

Khawaja Asif said that as many as 50 government offices were being converted to solar power while the solar power supply would also be provided soon to several off-grid schools and basic health units (BHUs) in Punjab.

Later, the CM will also review the status of all development work in Sialkot during an important meeting with local MNAs, MPAs and district heads.
