ISLAMABAD: Power distribution companies have filed an application with the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra), seeking an increase of Rs1.76 per unit in electricity tariff under the fuel price adjustment mechanism.
Nepra officials told The Express Tribune that the power companies submitted the application for an increase in tariff for September through the Central Power Purchasing Agency. The request has been approved for hearing and Nepra will take a decision after listening to the arguments from power companies.
According to the application, average electricity production cost remained at Rs5.63 per unit in September while approved reference price for the month was Rs3.87 per unit, leaving a difference of Rs1.76, which should be allowed to recover.
According to Nepra sources, the regulatory authority has already given the go-ahead for an overall increase of Rs5.44 per unit as fuel price adjustment for the previous two months of July and August. However, this could not be implemented so far because a gazette notification is awaited.
Of the approved increase of Rs5.44, tariff for July has been increased by Rs2.4 per unit and for August by Rs3.04 per unit.
