Anti-US rally: JI to oppose any changes to foreign policy

PESHAWAR: Former chief of Jamat-e-Islami (JI) Qazi Hussain Ahmad said on Sunday that his party would strongly oppose any changes made by the government in its foreign policy regarding the United States.

Qazi Hussain was addressing an anti-US rally in Peshawar. He also maintained that the Pakistani nation would stand with the JI on this matter.

More than 1,500 Jamaat-e-Islami activists along with provincial and district JI chiefs were present on the occasion.

Qazi asserted that any attack by United States on Pakistan would not be tolerated and said the nation would stand united against the US.

Angry protesters also voiced their fury by chanting anti-America slogans.

Last month, anti-American protests by religious parties broke out in several Pakistani cities after political leaders joined in rejecting US accusations that Islamabad was supporting militants.

Charges by top US general Mike Mullen that Pakistan’s spy agency had supported an attack on the US mission in Kabul has added to anti-American sentiment in a country where a poll in June showed that almost two-thirds of the population considered the United States an enemy.

The United States has long pressed its ally Pakistan to pursue the Haqqani network, one of the most lethal Taliban-allied Afghan groups fighting Western forces in Afghanistan.

Pakistan denies it supports the Haqqanis and says its army is too stretched battling its own Taliban insurgency to go after the network, which has between 10,000-15,000 fighters.

@Anwar

I did not mean to offend you or any other person of Waziristan. My hart bleeds for Waziristan. I started my basic education from Hangu. I know North and south waziristan more than any local. Ordinary public is very humble and poor, live under the law of political agent one man rule. Now the time is ripe let some one clean up from all the insurgents, criminals and Anti State elements.

Please demond that all FATA area to be turned into settled area, I like to see schools collages, Hospitals and industry in Waziristan. All this area is full of mineral wealth with right direction you can turn Waziristan into Dubai.

Choice is with the people of Waziristan ,How they like to live ?

Anwar | 13 years ago | Reply @ijaz Mir: Quite ironical is your point of view, as you are saying, people in North Waziristan are sending boys to the rest of Pakistan for suicide attacks and killing innocent people in the public places including worship places,............... Do you have some authentic proof for such claims or comments ?, plus how many of them were arrested and proved that they belonged to the common men in Waziristan(Waziristanis never own TTP), i do know for being a waziristani that there are insurgents/miscreants in tribal areas who have been injected not by our Corrupt and Puppet decision makers in government but foreign rival intelligence operators as well, but a question arises, how much sincere we and our government is for solving this issue? the answer we every one knows well, as for as our observation since last 10 years is concerned, is that , we have already carried out operations in our tribal belt whenever we have had pressure from out side or we needed more and more funds, all educated and mature waziristanis do realize (unfortunately only realize it), that waziristan have proved a very good instrumental for earning more and more foreign aids for our authorities.
