"In his death, the people of Kashmir have lost their friend," Yasin Malik, chairman of the Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF), said in a statement.
A marathon United Nations diatribe by Qaddafi in September 2009 annoyed India but won him an enthusiastic fan base in Indian-administered Kashmir.
Qaddafi berated Western powers for an hour and 35 minutes from the General Assembly podium in a speech covering issues as diverse as John F. Kennedy's assassination, swine flu and his support for Kashmiri independence.
"Kashmir should be an independent state, not Indian, not Pakistani. We should end this conflict," Qaddafi told the UN assembly.
His remarks were splashed across the front pages of Kashmir's leading dailies, as the region's separatist leaders applauded.
Malik's JKLF wants to break Kashmir away from both India and Pakistan, which each hold part of the region but claim it in full, and make it an independent state.
"Although he was a dictator, he was a brave human being. He raised his voice in the UN and other international forums for the freedom and independence of Kashmir," Malik said.
Malik condemned the "inhuman custodial killing" on Thursday of the Libyan dictator.
"Whether it is Qaddafi or anyone else, custodial killing of a human being is an act of terrorism and if world community approves or glamorises such acts, real peace in the world would be a far-fetched dream," he said.
"Such acts would only promote hatred, enmity and instability in the world."

@raheel: if its the trait of a tyrant then what about bush and obama?
Surely, A Loss for Pakistan and for Kashmir.
It is starnge that Libians are dancing in the streets for getting rid of a dictator but people of Pakistan are mourning his death!! Why was Gadaffi so popular in Pakistan that they named their biggest stadium in Lahore as Gadaffi stadium?Do Pakistanis realize that their support for dictators like Gadaffi and sheltering terrorists puts them in a different mind set than rest of the world and slowly drifting them to isolation.
Shame on you Yasin Malik, you claim yourself a freedom fighter and you hail a dictator. Funny.
Saif al-Islam, the second son of the late Muammar Gaddafi was the founder of the "Ghaddafi International Charity and Development Foundation” (GICDF). He funded development projects among Kashmiri refugees in Pakistan and India, He also had a survey carried out in Indian- and Pakistani-administered Kashmir, which produced "striking results". The poll was conducted by Robert Bradnock - an associate fellow at the Chatham House think-tank in London. The results were published in May 2010 and the poll was the first ever to be taken on both sides of the Line of Control. It came to the conclusion that most Kashmiris yearn for peace. Indeed, Gaddafi was a very controversial character. While many loathed him, there were others who loved him. I do agree with Yasin Malik, when he condemned the "inhuman custodial killing" of Gaddafi.
If He was friend and sympathiser of Kashmir , what he did from 1969 till 2009 ? Getting support from such person tentamounts to spoling your case.
no one can find a solution for these king of proplrs, they will continue finding, making problems

A freedom fighter mourning the death of a dictator
@Hiren:
It is Pakistan who wants UN resolution implemented. India is scared to hold a referendum knowing what the result would be. India refuses to vacate IOK as well which is a requirement for a referendum there. Also it is Indian gov and its civilians like you that always say that resolutions for referendum are invalid, Pakistan is willing to hold a referendum there and have never considered refurendum related related resolutions invalid. Your argument is just a lame excuse.
"It was Pakistan, not India, who sabotaged the fate of Kashmir by invading Kashmir".By that do you mean fate of all of Kashmir living under Indian occupation? We do not see Pakistani side of Kashmir asking for independence, and after sealing the border and militancy died down we still see protests for independence in IOK. Clear proof that people there do not want to live under Indian occupation and want freedom in contrary to Indian claims that it is all outsiders and people are with India.
As a citizen of Pakistan I do not mind giving an option of complete freedom from both countires to them as well. Let the people decide for themselves, and not India or Pakistan.Would India dare holding a refrendum and vacating its military, I doubt.
@BruteForce:
WOW dude I reccomend using internet to do some research as well. Saddam and Kadhafi were anti Islamist. They jailed and tourtured islamists during their regime. We have Iran friendly gov in |raq, Islamists like Muqtada Al Sadr whose father was killed by Saddam for being an Islamist and an opponent, and other Islamic parties are in the parliment now, and NTC head in Libya is an Islamist who was tortured during Kaddafi era. A good chunk of NTC fighters are Islamists, who hated Kadhafi with passion. Islamists are rejoicing and hoping for a free and fair election. They have best chance to win in Egypt, Tunisia and Libya. .
India to stop making dams on Pak waterways or there will be no peace in Sub-Continent. Note: Gadhdafi was a tyrant who would find a worthwhile agitating cause anywhere on the world map just to get back on his enemies. Fact: What his people think of him is what he really was. Gadhafi had the chance to correct himself but he chose the wrong path, like Saddam.
@Zahid Aslam:
Like Salim Shehzaad..right?
@MD: btw md hope you are aware that the biggeste support of ira was us
JKLF, LeT, JeM etc should have volunteered for the 'brother leader' , the great champion of people's democratic rights !!
"He supported freedom for Kashmiri people but kept his own people in bondage."
And there are people (like Yasin Malik) who take him seriously.
Whose word shall I take? 'People of Lybia' or, Yasin Malik ?
Mr. Malik you didn’t do your PR any favour by calling Qaddafi a brave man and loss for people of Kashmir. it doesn't matter what he said what really matters what he did. Qaddafi was a hypocrite a dictator who terrorised, traumatised and killed who dared to have opinion different from him. it's always easy to tell other what to do and very difficult to follow the same course , usually it's called hypocrisy.
what gaddafi said, the same thing is supported by few indian "intellectuals" ...lol
@rational_thinker: This has happened because 3 faced America always do this when times goes. Becasue they ned india against Pakistana nd china that's why they ignore indian sin and crimes against humnity in Kashmir.
@BruteForce: Sadam was supported by Americans, European and indians more than 35 years. America supported Saddam AGAINST Iran. I think you should correct your knowledge.
Gaddafi was well known as a sponsorer of terrorism around the world. He funded IRA and many other insurgencies in Africa. His support for Kashmiri terrorists only strengthened India's position among the world community.
@omg!: Yes Brother, you are 100% wright.
@AKS.. very true.. that meeting btw HRK and Kashmir separatist leaders was a huge PR blunder for Pakistan... due to that meeting, India's stature as a democratic, tolerant country has increased in world's eyes and Pakistan was proved to sponsor insurgency in Kashmir....
Islamists all over the World mourn him, just like they mourned another dictator Saddam. Same with the Indian side. Just goes to show that how communal are the seperatists of Kashmir. Its not about Kashmir, but Religion for them.
Jinnah's communal creation is limping back and forth, another communal demand will destroy it, rather, bring forward its destruction.
We must condemn the custodial killing of Gaddafi....
With friends like Ghaddafi and Idi Amin, why does Kashmir need enemies? You will win a lot of support from peace loving people around the world.
A supposed freedom fighter lamenting the death of a tyrant, ironic don't you think?
And to think that our dear FM saw it fit to potentially jeopardize her groundbreaking India trip to meet this sage.
who cares, the Libyans themselves don't want him,
Its Indian Occupied Kashmir (IoK). Not Indian Kashmir. :)
