BAHAWALPUR:

The Multan Electric Power Company (Mepco) has been providing free electricity to administrative offices in Bahawalpur for the last seven months.

According to a Mepco lineman, no electricity bill has been charged from most administrative offices, including the commissioner’s office, the district coordination office office and the anti-corruption office.

Mepco senior officials have refused to comment on the issue and Mepco worker Qasim Buksh said that the authorities had ordered that electricity meters at the offices be replaced immediately.

“They are claiming that it was a technical fault but these offices have been exempt for some time,” he said. Mepco executive engineer Raees Ahmed said that he had received orders from Mepco senior engineer Muhammad Aslam to waive off charges for the above-mentioned offices.

“Normal consumption of these offices is around 4000MW each month but recently they have documented less than 200MW,” he said.
