Ghq Attack Case: Another accused approaches LHC for trial documents

RAWALPINDI:

Another convict in the General Headquarters attack case has approached the Lahore High Court, asking for a copy of the trial court’s verdict and proceedings.

Petitioner Muhammad Tariq Shafiq was sentenced to seven years in jail in the April 11 verdict and has now moved the LHC’s Rawalpindi Bench.

“Military authorities have refused to hand over the trial proceedings document to Shafiq, who has asked the high court to direct the military courts to provide him the documents so that he can prepare his defence,” Shafiq’s counsel Sardar Muhammad Hafeez Khan told The Express Tribune.

The lawyer has cited two other identical petitions filed by Aqeel Ahmed alias Dr Usman and Wajid Hussain and urged the court to direct military authorities not to proceed with Shafiq’s appeal until a decision on this writ petition.

Khan said that Shafiq, a textile engineer from Faisalabad, was convicted for carrying arms in the CNG cylinder of a Suzuki Khyber from Jhang to Faisalabad.
