New department established at AIOU

AIOU inaugurated the department of Centre for Instructional Design (CID) at its main campus.

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) inaugurated the department of Centre for Instructional Design (CID) at its main campus on Tuesday.


The new department would be a step forward to accelerate and enrich distant educational opportunities. Addressing the inaugural ceremony, Senior Minister of Education and Literacy Pir Mazharul Haq said, “It is certainly a matter of pride that more than one million students are gaining knowledge from the university.”

Haq also announced the joint use of all buildings of education department, Government of Sindh and Allama Iqbal Open University across Sindh particularly at Mithi, Umerkot, Khudaabad, Tando Adam and Behazirabad.

AIOU Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr Nazir Ahmed Sangi said AIOU, in terms of student’s enrolment, is the largest university of the country and provides education of “international standard” at the doorsteps to the students at an affordable cost.

Dr Sangi said AIOU is working to strengthen the basic and higher education in all nook and corners of the country, especially the underprivileged rural areas of Sindh and Balochistan. He added the university is developing programmes according to needs of the regions and started socio-economic education and job oriented courses to boost rural economy.

He said modern communication technology is playing a vital role in providing facilities for the delivery system and quality education, so AIOU is making new strides in employing most modern communication technology to the service of education.
