Defence minister Abdul Rahim Wardak said operation "Knife Edge" was launched two days ago, while a senior defence ministry official said it was "largely against the Haqqani network", blamed for a recent attack in Kabul.
US officials have accused Pakistan of ties to the Haqqani group, causing diplomatic rifts as the West seeks an end to the 10-year war in Afghanistan.
A NATO spokesman confirmed only that "enhanced official operations" were ongoing in the eastern region that borders Pakistan, but gave no further details for security reasons.

There is an amazingly sick mentality of certain people. They are happy that the US has spent zillions of dollars to kill only a few tens of thousands of terrorists. They are happy that US bullets are being consumed in Afghanistan, and some day they would run out of arms and money. The fact is US economy is based upon cranking the arms and ammunition, called military industrial complex.
What the Indians and the Afghans want is to see US and Pakistani soldiers fight it out. I hope that sane heads in Washington and Islamabad understand the devious way of the Indian Afghan criminal nexus.
Hahaha, NATO is conducting operations since 2001. but with every passing year the militancy & NATO casualties in afghanistan are increasing instead of decreasing. NATO launched this operation, NATO launched that operation, and The drama continues, but its for sure the last episode is coming very soon. Because the Americans can not afford this war any more due to its internal economic instability. The american people r fed up with this drama. The american army just want an excuse for a face saving & safe exit.

Spot on some how the Pakistan Army has not smelled the coffee yet or at least is refusing to do so.
According to my assessment, Pakistan army will not cooperate with Afghan and NATO forces. Because they also did the same while Pakistan was conducting such operations in Swat and North Waziristan. Before those operations NATO was present in the barracks alongside the border but during the operation the presence was nill. They gave space to TTP and other millitants due to which Pakistan Army couldnt hit them hard. Tit for Tat
The Afghans are not dumb or stooges. They know what they are up against and are leveraging US support to take on the Haqqanis who are nothing but a gang of violent criminals. Those kinds of animals deserve no seat at any negotiating table.
People in KURRAM would be more than happy if the siege of KURRAM is lifted.
According to my assessment, one sided operation by Afghan and NATO forces against the Haqqanis without participation of Pak army across the border would make no headway unless hot persuit of militants is conducted across the border, a unlikely scenario since they will simply melt away to the safe havens of NWA.
probably another failed operation
