KARACHI:

Sindh police and other law enforcers were put on notice by a division bench of the High Court of Sindh (SHC) comprising Chief Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi on Friday in a petition filed by wives of three alleged illegally detained sailors and their labourer nephew.

The bench was moved by Lubna Qavi Ghaffar, wife of Qavi Ghaffar, Hayat Begum, wife of Rasheed Ahmed, Parveen Rafique, wife of Bakht Rafique and Bakht Arm, mother of Nisar Ahmed who maintained that their husbands and son were arrested by police on August 19 and August 28, 2011 respectively.

Qavi Ghaffar was allegedly taken into custody by intelligence people when he went to a shipping company Mackinnons Mackenzie and Company on August 19. As soon as Qavi entered the office of the shipping company he was hit in the head and removed in unconscious condition and went missing.

The remaining three were arrested on August 28 when law enforcers intruded into their house in Malir Karachi using ladder.

The petitioners maintained that the police was not producing the missing persons before any court and  the family apprehends that they would be linked with Taliban as they are permanent residents of Kabal, Mingora.

The bench after hearing arguments by counsel for petitioners ordered issuance of notices to the respondents  including Federal Interior Secretary, Provincial Police Officer, CCPO and others with direction to the office to fix the petition for hearing after ten days.
