LAHORE: “The crises we are facing today are a result of mismanagement and malafide actions of past governments,” Prime Minister Yusuf Raza Gilani said on Saturday.

He said Allama Iqbal’s works had been a source of inspiration for Pakistanis and that his ideas would now help the nation find its way out of the multiple problems it was suffering from. He was speaking at a ceremony to distribute Presidential Iqbal Awards at Aiwan-i-Iqbal. Gilani said Pakistanis were lucky to have had a great poet like Iqbal as one of the founding fathers.

“We need to enlighten ourselves with Iqbal’s philosophy. It will help us become an influential country.” Gilani said Iqbal had urged nations to adapt to the times to remain relevant at the international level. Governor Sardar Latif Khan Khosa, Justice (retd) Javed Iqbal, Iqbal Academy Pakistan (IAP) Vice-President Dr Shahzad Qaisar and Publisher Arif Nizami were also present.
