Karachi to punjab: Chinese to build portion of highway

Chinese company will construct 30-kilometre portion of Super Highway from Karachi to Punjab at cost of Rs6.3 billion.

ISLAMABAD: Parliamentary Secretary for Communication Ch Saeed Iqbal on Wednesday informed the National Assembly that a Chinese company would construct a 130-kilometre portion of the Super Highway from Karachi to Punjab at a cost of Rs6.3 billion. Responding to a notice by Nawab Abdul Ghani Talpur and others regarding the dilapidated condition of bridges and the Super Highway from Karachi to Punjab, he said that the Chinese grant and workers of the company had reached Pakistan and work on it would be started soon. He said that the ministry of communication has also received a grant of Rs3.1 billion from the Asian Development Bank for repair and construction of the road. The parliamentary secretary further informed that there were 174 bridges on the Super Highway from Karachi to Punjab and the recent rains have damaged six of them.
