Swan on song for Pakistan

Teenage swimmer qualifies for finals in World Cup.

KARACHI:

Pakistan’s Lianna Swan qualified for the 200 metre individual medley, 200m breaststroke and 50m breaststroke at the Fina Arena World Cup taking place in Dubai.

The 14-year-old Swan, the only participant from Pakistan, will take part in seven events with high hopes after winning four gold medals at the national championship held in Islamabad earlier this year.

“It’s exciting to qualify for the finals,” Swan told The Express Tribune. “For me, it’s an opportunity to represent Pakistan and show the world that Pakistanis can also do well in the sport. I’m competing against the best. I think I need more confidence and a proper warm-up before the competition and I can be as good as the others.”

Meanwhile, according to the  Pakistan Swimming Federation (PSF), Swan was a fierce competitor at the national championship and the federation had sent her application for the Dubai event since she is based there and the PSF would not need to bear the expenses.
