An explosive reality: Large cache of ammunition seized from Shehzad Town

ISLAMABAD: The city police on Saturday arrested two suspected terrorists and recovered a large cache of explosives and ammunition.

The men had been able to transport missiles, suicide jackets and hand grenades along with fuses and vials past the numerous check posts installed on the various roads of the capital to reach a locality near Shehzad Town.

According to the police, they intercepted a “suspicious” Peshawar-registered Toyota Corolla at Taramri Chowk. The police found two missiles, one suicide jacket and two hand grenades in the car and arrested the driver. He told them about a house in Street 2 of Chatha Bakhtawar, where they found a huge cache of weapons and explosives.

The police recovered 90 vials of a drug used by terrorists to calm a to-be suicide bomber, four suicide jackets, 12 hand grenades, 16 rocket fuses and 14 missiles (106 , 107-R). They also nabbed a suspect during the raid on the house.

An official said that they had gotten “important clues” during preliminary investigations. A special team was also constituted to raid more places in the area.  He added the police was trying to determine the “desired targets of these suspected terrorists”.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Bani Amin told media that the police was already on high alert therefore it was able to prevent the terrorist attacks. “The police have saved the city from a disaster by timely recovery of these explosives,” he said.

Amin added, “The [vials recovered] are used to numb the mind of a suicide bomber.”

The IGP said the terrorists “probably” entered Islamabad from Rawalpindi through the IJP Road. He said the police are investigating the matter and will have more details by Sunday (today).

@Salman: You are absolutely correct. A splendid job by the Islamabad police. Kudos to them. But Karachi is a pot pourri of incongrous elements. Some of the commenters from India forget their own terrorist groups and extremists like CM Narendra Modi of Ahmedabad and sixteen plus movements that want separate homelands from India. Salams brother.

@Salman

How wrong you are. I understand your blind support for your homeland - Pakistan. However, if you look at history, Pakistan has hardly ever caught or punished the culprits and instead blamed the neighbors.

Your country is famous for protecting criminals and terrorists. Most terror attacks on India emanated from Pakistan. In fact, most attacks on Afghanistan are emanating from Pakistan today.

See the facts dear, before commenting.
